Apparently no visit to Tywyn is complete without a trip on the Talyllyn steam railway, the “railway with a heart of gold” which is one of the world’s oldest preserved narrow-gauge railways.
As it was my birthday, I decided to treat myself to a ride on this little piece of history, which travels from Tywyn Wharf via Dolgoch and Abergynolwyn up to Nant Gwernol. It’s a roughly two and half hour round trip, with a half-hour break on the way back down at Abergynolwyn for refreshments, and was a thoroughly pleasurable experience.
I’m not normally any kind of steam-rail “buff” but I really enjoyed this, and it was a great treat to myself for my birthday.
